SSC exam on Sunday: State government on alert, strict instructions implemented

Kolkata: For the first time after the 2016 SSC recruitment scam in West Bengal, a "clean" and transparent examination is going to be held on Sunday. This time the state government and the School Service Commission (SSC) have made extensive preparations to ensure the fairness of the examination. A total of three lakh 19 thousand 919 candidates will appear in this examination.

At 4 pm on Saturday, Chief Secretary Manoj Pant held a review meeting with all the District Magistrates and the Police Administration at the Secretariat. Clear guidelines were issued in the meeting to conduct the examination smoothly. He said that the guidelines should be strictly followed and the administration will be vigilant from the road to the examination center. The Chairman of the Commission and senior officials of the School Education Department were also present in the meeting.

According to sources, the Additional District Magistrate in every district has been given the responsibility of conducting the examination. Deputy Magistrates will be deployed at the examination centers. The Transport Department has been instructed to increase the number of buses and the Railways has been requested to make adequate arrangements for local trains.

For the convenience of the candidates, SSC has opened the control room from 8 am on Sunday. This arrangement will also be there in all the regional offices. The control room will also be operated by the education department from 10 am. Education Minister Bratya Basu issued a message from the X handle and wished the candidates and said that security and transparency will be ensured at 636 centers.

SSC Chairman Siddharth Majumdar told in the press conference that the examination will start at 12 noon. Candidates will be able to enter from 10 am and the last time will be till 11:45 am. Question papers will be distributed at 11:45 am and writing of answers will start at 12 noon. All centers will be searched with metal detectors. Mobile phones, smart watches, calculators, non-transparent water bottles or pens will not be allowed. Specially abled candidates will get 30 minutes extra time.

The commission claimed that each question paper will have different security features. There will be a system of admit card scanning. No one will be able to leave until the examination is over. Last time in 2016, there were allegations of rigging in OMR sheets, so this time candidates will be allowed to take carbon copy of OMR home. Also, panel and waiting list will be valid for one year, which can be extended by six months if needed.

The commission has clarified that if any candidate makes indecent comments, symbols or inappropriate pictures on the answer sheet, his/her copy will be cancelled. The answer key will be released on the website a few days after the exam, so that candidates can compare it with their carbon copy.

On next Sunday, 14 September, there will be a recruitment exam for class 11-12, in which two lakh 46 thousand 500 candidates will participate and 478 centers have been set up. The commission says that most of the candidates selected in 2016 have applied this time too. This time the number of candidates is two and a half lakh more.
