Jharkhand/West Singhbhum: Security forces have killed a Naxalite with a reward of Rs 10 lakh in an encounter with Naxalites on Sunday morning at Burjuwa hill in Relaparal village of Goilkera police station area of West Singhbhum (Chaibasa) district of Jharkhand.
Chaibasa police had received secret information that there is movement of Naxalites in the area. After this, a team of police and security forces went on a search operation in Relaparal area early Sunday morning. On seeing the security forces, the Naxalites started firing, in response to which the soldiers also took charge and started firing.
In this encounter that lasted for several hours, CPI Maoist zonal commander Amit Hansda alias Upton was killed. The Jharkhand government had announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh on him. Bodies and weapons have been found from the spot.
During the encounter, the remaining Naxalites fled taking advantage of the dense forest. Police and security forces have cordoned off the area and an intensive search operation is going on in the forest.
SP Rakesh Ranjan confirmed the killing of a Naxalite in the encounter and said that additional forces have been sent to the area. Search operations are going on in the area.
