Woman accused in jail for harassing by calling witch did not get bail

Ranchi. The court of the Commissioner of Justice of Civil Court Ranchi has refused to grant bail to Karuna Devi, a woman in jail, on charges of harassing a woman by calling her a witch and making a murderous attack. She is in jail since 28 May 2025. A named FIR has been registered against her in Sonahatu police station on the above charge. This FIR was lodged by the victim woman's son Vipin Bihari Mahato on 29 May 2024. The incident was carried out on 27 May 2024. The woman is accused of abusing the informant's mother by calling her a witch, throwing her on the ground by holding her hair, attacking her face with a stone, among other charges. After the anticipatory bail petition was rejected twice by the Jharkhand High Court, she surrendered in the court on 28 May 2025. The court had sent her to jail. She has been in jail since then.
