Ranchi District Bar Association begins three-day boycott of judicial work protesting SDO office notices; judicial proceedings completely stalled on day one

The three-day boycott of judicial work, announced by the Ranchi District Bar Association (RDBA) in protest against the show-cause notices issued to over two dozen advocates by the Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDO) office, commenced on Tuesday. Judicial work was severely impacted on the very first day of the agitation, bringing normal court operations to a standstill.
Following the Bar Association's call, the old Bar building remained locked throughout the day; while some advocates arrived at the new Bar building, none participated in judicial proceedings. In support of the protest, advocates completely halted the drafting of affidavits, forcing many litigants who had traveled from far-flung areas to either return without getting their work done or face long waits.
Sanjay Kumar Vidrohi, a member of the ad-hoc committee, stated that the second day of the agitation would also be fully effective. He mentioned that both the old and new Bar buildings would remain closed on Wednesday, and an appeal has been made to all advocates to abstain from judicial work.
He emphasized that this movement is aimed at upholding the honor, dignity, and unity of advocates. Calling upon all advocates to remain united, he raised the slogan, "Long live advocates' unity."
The Bar Association stated that the decision to boycott judicial work for three days was taken unanimously during a general body meeting held to protest the show-cause notices issued by the SDO court. The Association clarified that if a satisfactory resolution to the matter is not reached, a future course of action will be determined to intensify the agitation.
