🛑 Surprise Inspection of Birsa Munda Central Jail; Review of Prisoner Amenities and Sanitation

Acting under the directives of Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad—Executive Chairman of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA)—and guided by JHALSA Member Secretary Ranjana Asthana and Ranchi Judicial Commissioner Anil Kumar Mishra-1, the Secretary (In-charge) of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ranchi, along with the LADC team, conducted a surprise inspection of Birsa Munda Central Jail on Thursday. During the inspection, a detailed assessment was made regarding the facilities provided to prisoners, health services, food quality, and sanitation arrangements.
As part of the inspection, the DLSA team visited various sections of the prison, including the women's ward, men's ward, hospital ward, kitchen, and library. They met with prisoners admitted to the hospital ward to inquire about their health, medical treatment, and the status of their pending judicial cases. Additionally, the kitchen was inspected, and the quality of food served to the prisoners was checked.
The DLSA team inspected the prison dispensary and reviewed the availability of essential medicines. Furthermore, a thorough check was conducted on healthcare facilities such as ambulances, wheelchairs, oxygen cylinders, stretchers, and beds. The health services and other essential amenities provided to women in the women's ward were also inspected.
During the inspection, the team directed the prison administration to maintain regular cleanliness across all wards, the hospital premises, and the kitchen. They emphasized the need to pay special attention to sanitation arrangements to ensure a clean and healthy environment.
Officials and staff present on the occasion included the DLSA Secretary (In-charge), LADC Chief Praveen Kumar Srivastava, LADC Assistants Saurabh Pandey and Virendra Pratap, and representatives from the Employment Office—Ashutosh Kumar Gupta, Monu Kumar, Abhimanyu Kumar, and Rahul Ranjan—among others.
