Palamu, September 16, 2026: In the much-discussed Rampur firing case in Palamu district, the Jharkhand High Court has refused to grant relief to Mundrika Singh and four other accused. The court rejected the anticipatory bail petitions filed by all five accused. After they were denied anticipatory bail by the lower court, the accused had approached the High Court seeking protection from arrest.
Dispute Over Boundary Construction
The case relates to Rampur village under Chainpur police station in Palamu district. On May 23, 2026, a dispute broke out between two groups over the construction of a boundary on a piece of land. The dispute soon turned into a violent clash.
Both sides allegedly engaged in a fight involving sticks and other weapons, and firing also took place during the incident.
A 23-year-old man, Sakendra Choudhary alias Sikandar Choudhary, died after sustaining a gunshot injury. Several other villagers were also reported to have been injured in the incident.
FIR Against 17 Named and 25 Unidentified Persons
Following the incident, police registered an FIR against 17 named accused and 25 unidentified persons. The FIR includes allegations under sections relating to murder, rioting, the Arms Act and other applicable provisions.
Police subsequently began investigating the case and examining the alleged roles of the individuals named in the FIR.
Accused Approached High Court After Lower Court Denied Bail
Mundrika Singh and four other accused had sought anticipatory bail to avoid arrest in connection with the case. Their plea was rejected by the lower court.
Following this, all five accused approached the Jharkhand High Court with anticipatory bail petitions.
After hearing the matter, the High Court rejected the anticipatory bail petitions of all five accused.
With the High Court's order, the five accused have not received immediate protection from arrest through anticipatory bail in the Rampur firing case. The police investigation into the matter is continuing.
