On Tuesday, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) organized a tribute meeting at the Nevari Ring Road intersection in Ranchi to mark the first death anniversary of the late Dishom Guru Shibu Soren—the architect of Jharkhand state and a Padma Bhushan awardee. During the event, heartfelt tributes were paid by garlanding a portrait of 'Guruji'.
Key figures present at the event included JMM Central General Secretary-cum-Spokesperson Vinod Kumar Pandey, Central General Secretary-cum-Spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya, and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Mahua Maji. Recalling Guruji's struggles, sacrifices, and contributions to the Jharkhand movement, the leaders described him as a symbol of the state's self-respect and identity.
Central General Secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey announced that the roundabout at Nevari Ring Road, Ranchi, would henceforth be known as "Dishom Guru Shibu Soren Chowk." He stated that a 14-foot-tall life-size statue of Guruji would be installed there, with a grand unveiling planned for his birth anniversary. Additionally, the entire intersection will undergo beautification and be developed into a well-maintained memorial site.
Supriyo Bhattacharya remarked that Guruji's struggle, sacrifice, and fight for dignity and identity would continue to serve as a source of inspiration for future generations.
Organized under the directive of the JMM central leadership and led by Ranchi District Convener-in-Chief Mushtaq Alam, the event saw the participation of a large number of office-bearers and workers from the central, district, metropolitan, and block levels. During the program, local residents were honored with traditional shawls (*angavastras*), and sarees and *lungis* were distributed among the needy.
Mushtaq Alam stated that naming the intersection after Guruji was a historic decision. He added that the 14-foot-tall statue to be installed there, along with the development of the intersection, would keep the memories of Guruji alive forever. A large number of party workers and local citizens, along with JMM office-bearers from the central, district, metropolitan, and various block levels, were present at the event.
