Jharkhand to be TB-free by 2029; government intensifies campaign

Ranchi: The Jharkhand government has set a target to make the state TB-free by the year 2029. Health Minister Irfan Ansari stated that TB (tuberculosis) can be completely defeated through timely testing, proper treatment, and nutritious food.

Speaking at a state-level NTF seminar in Ranchi, the Health Minister emphasized that TB eradication is a government priority. A campaign is being driven by leveraging modern technology, improved healthcare services, and public participation.

He noted that the 'Nikshay Mitra' campaign is being strengthened to assist TB patients in the state. So far, 9,945 'Nikshay Mitras' have been enrolled, providing support and encouragement to patients.

The Health Minister stated that TB patients are receiving nutritional support of ₹1,000 per month via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). Additionally, food baskets and nutritious diets are being provided to facilitate a speedy recovery for patients.

He explained that modern technologies such as CBNAAT, TrueNat, and digital tracking are ensuring early detection and treatment of TB. Special attention is also being paid to cases of drug-resistant TB (DR-TB and MDR-TB).

Addressing the event, Ajay Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of the Jharkhand government, said that the TB control campaign is being further strengthened through the collaboration of medical colleges and health institutions.

The Health Minister expressed confidence that through the joint efforts of the government, doctors, healthcare workers, and the general public, Jharkhand will achieve the goal of becoming a TB-free state by 2029.
