Drug Abuse and Crime Are Complementary to Each Other: Justice Anil Kumar Mishra
Protecting Youth from Drugs Is the Core Objective of ‘DON’ Scheme–2025

The legal awareness programme being conducted under the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) flagship ‘DON Scheme–2025’, aimed at protecting youth from drug abuse, concluded on Monday in Ranchi. Addressing a special youth conference and seminar on the occasion, Justice Anil Kumar Mishra stated that drug abuse and crime are complementary to each other, and addiction often pushes individuals toward criminal activities.
The programme was organised under the guidance of Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, Executive Chairman, Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA), and under the aegis of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ranchi. Justice Anil Kumar Mishra led the programme as the chief guest. The valedictory function was inaugurated by lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The stage proceedings were conducted by DLSA Secretary Rakesh Raushan, while anchoring was done by Roshni Sharma.
Justice Mishra said that the legal awareness drive was conducted from January 5 to January 12, 2026, and concluded on National Youth Day. He urged students to draw inspiration from the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and adopt values such as discipline, character, and service to build a strong future. He also discussed the harmful physical, mental, social, and legal consequences of drug addiction and appealed to students to stay away from intoxicants.
During the programme, students from Kalakriti School and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Kanke (Ranchi) were honoured with certificates and shields for their outstanding participation. Justice Mishra personally awarded certificates and shields to the students, while other dignitaries present on the dais also distributed certificates.
In the painting competition held among students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Jaya Kumari secured first place, Sweta Kumari second, and Kritika Kumari third. In the essay competition (senior category), Sandipa Kumari Bedia won first prize, followed by Tanu Kumari in second place and Dipshikha Kumari Bedia in third place. In the junior category, Roshni Kumari secured first prize, Laxmi Kumari second, and Namrata Kumari third.
A painting exhibition was also organised by students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, which was visited by Justice Mishra and other dignitaries. The students explained the themes and messages behind their artworks.
DLSA Secretary Rakesh Raushan informed that during the seven-day Youth Week under the ‘DON Scheme–2025’, more than 7,375 programmes were organised, connecting over 218,750 people, all of whom took a pledge to stay away from drug abuse.
The programme was attended by Life Savers NGO head Atul Gera, NCB Superintendent Shariq Umar, Registrar-cum-Judge In-Charge Prashant Kumar Verma, members of LADCS, Kalakriti School Director Dhananjay Kumar, students, PLVs, and other dignitaries.
