Jail Adalat at Birsa Munda Central Jail; 45 Inmate Cases Heard, 2 Released


Ranchi, June 21, 2026: A 'Jail Adalat' (prison court) and legal awareness camp was organized on Sunday at Birsa Munda Central Jail, Hotwar. The event was held under the directives of Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad (Judge, Jharkhand High Court and Executive Chairman, JHALSA) and the guidance of Kumari Ranjana Asthana (Member Secretary, JHALSA) and Anil Kumar Mishra (Judicial Commissioner and Chairman, District Legal Services Authority - DLSA, Ranchi).


To facilitate the speedy disposal of pending cases, applications from 45 inmates were presented before the court; two inmates were granted release through the proceedings of the Jail Adalat. This initiative is viewed as a significant step towards ensuring timely justice for inmates.


A legal awareness camp was also conducted within the prison premises, where inmates were informed about various schemes of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA). Officials educated the inmates about their legal rights and the provisions regarding free legal aid.


Additionally, a special health check-up camp was organized, keeping the inmates' health in mind. A team of doctors examined the inmates and provided necessary medical advice and treatment recommendations.


Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Judicial Magistrate and the DLSA Secretary emphasized that medical camps should be organized in prisons periodically to ensure regular monitoring of the inmates' health. They noted that timely detection of illnesses and appropriate treatment could help keep the inmates healthy and free from disease.


The event was attended by Chief Judicial Magistrate S.B. Sharma, DLSA Secretary Rakesh Roshan, Judicial Magistrates Mayank Maliyaj, Manish Kumar Singh, and Amit Gupta, Railway Judicial Magistrate Bijay Kumar Yadav, members of the LADC, Birsa Munda Central Jail Superintendent Kumar Chandrashekhar, Jailor Lavkush Kumar, and Head Clerk Md. ... Prison staff and inmates, including Saddam Hussain, were present.
