Election Commission clarifies rumors regarding voter list revision in Jharkhand; names of eligible voters will not be removed
Ranchi, June 21: Jharkhand’s Chief Electoral Officer, K. Ravi Kumar, has clarified that the names of eligible Indian citizens will not be removed from the voter list during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR-2026). He stated that misleading information is being circulated via social media and other channels claiming that a large number of voters' names would be deleted from the list, which is not the case.
The Chief Electoral Officer explained that a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is being conducted in Jharkhand after 23 years. During the enumeration phase, scheduled from June 30 to July 29, 2026, enumeration forms will be provided to all voters currently included in the voter list. Voters who submit the signed form will have their names included in the draft voter list without the need for any additional documentation.
However, the names of voters falling under five specific categories will not be included in the draft voter list to be published on August 5, 2026. These categories include voters with duplicate entries, deceased voters, permanently shifted voters, absent or untraceable voters, and foreign citizens or individuals who refuse to sign the form.
According to the Election Department, names falling into these categories will be published in the ASDD (Absent, Shifted, Duplicate, Death) list. This list will be verified in the presence of representatives from political parties and will also be made public.
The Chief Electoral Officer stated that it is mandatory for every voter currently on the list to submit a signed enumeration form between June 30 and July 29. Voters residing outside the state due to employment, education, or other reasons can submit the form online, via ECINet, or by contacting their Booth Level Officer (BLO).
He urged the public not to pay heed to rumors and to rely solely on official information provided by the Election Commission. An opportunity to file claims and objections will also be available from August 5 to September 4, 2026.
