NHAI, Road Safety Board Join Hands to Make National Highways Safer
New Delhi, August 21: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the National Road Safety Board (NRSB) have decided to strengthen cooperation to improve road safety and reduce accidents on national highways.
An institutional meeting was held at NHAI headquarters in New Delhi under the leadership of NRSB Chairman Dr. Nitin R. Gokarn and NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav. Officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, state administrations and road safety experts also participated.
The meeting reviewed road safety management, highway engineering, safety audits, accident-prone locations, speed management, emergency response, commercial vehicle safety and the use of modern technology.
NHAI highlighted its technology-based initiatives, including advanced traffic management systems, predictive AI solutions and digital ambulance mapping. These measures are aimed at improving accident response and strengthening emergency services.
Dr. Gokarn stressed the need to identify the country’s top 10 accident-prone locations and strengthen first-aid facilities at toll plazas. He also called for training toll plaza personnel in basic first aid so that timely assistance can be provided to road accident victims.
The meeting also identified six key areas for future action, including risk identification, safer highway engineering, intelligent transport systems, emergency response, digital safety management, performance monitoring and institutional accountability.
NHAI and NRSB agreed to hold regular review meetings and maintain structured cooperation to address emerging road safety challenges and make the national highway network safer.
