20 Children Sent to Kochi for Free Heart Surgery
Ranchi, August 24, 2026: Under an initiative of the Jharkhand Government’s Health Department, 20 children suffering from congenital heart defects were sent to Kochi for free heart surgery and treatment at Amrita Hospital.
Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari said the government aims to ensure that no poor child is deprived of life-saving treatment due to financial constraints. The treatment package includes tests, surgery, medicines, accommodation, food, travel and post-operative follow-up.
Parents of the children expressed gratitude to the Health Minister and the Jharkhand Government, saying they could not afford the estimated ₹4–5 lakh cost of surgery.
The minister said around 100 children are targeted for treatment under the initiative, while 75 children have already undergone successful free heart surgeries through the department’s efforts.
The programme is being implemented with the support of RBSK teams. MD, NHM Shashi Prakash Jha and senior Health Department officials were present when the children were sent from Ranchi Railway Station.
