FIR filed against student accused of creating obscene photos of 36 girls in Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh/Raipur: A third-year Electronics and Communication Engineering student at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) (International Institute of Information Technology), Raipur, located in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, created obscene photos of 36 girls using AI technology. The Rakhi police station has filed an FIR against the accused student, Syed Rahim Adnan Ali, in this case.

Following a written complaint from the management, the Rakhi police station has registered a case against the accused under sections 66(E) (violation of privacy), 67, 67(A) (transmitting obscene material) and other relevant sections of the IT Act. Police stated on Thursday that the photos have not yet gone viral on social media or any other medium. If the college administration provides any concrete information in this matter, strict action will be taken.

Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has also taken cognizance of the matter and assured that a thorough investigation is underway. Raipur's Senior Superintendent of Police, Dr. Lal Umed Singh, provided this information. The Rakhi police station is investigating the matter. Dr. Om Prakash Vyas, Director of IIIT Raipur, confirmed the student's suspension and the institute's internal investigation. He stated, "A detailed report will be submitted to the police after the investigation is complete." The Rakhi police station stated that after a search, the accused student's laptop and other electronic devices were seized.

It is noteworthy that the accused student had been misusing AI-based editing tools for the past several months. According to the police, he downloaded profile pictures of female students and other students from social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Using AI tools, he then generated obscene versions of these photos. This incident falls under the category of cyber exploitation and a serious crime under the Information Technology Act. After some female students discovered the misuse of their photos, they filed a written complaint with the institute's management. As soon as the matter came to light, the IIIT administration suspended the student and subsequently formed an internal investigation committee. After the report confirmed the accused student's involvement, the institute issued a notice to the accused and referred the matter to the police.

The students have expressed concern that their obscene photos could be sold or leaked online. This could seriously compromise their privacy. They have requested the cyber police to investigate the accused's mobile phone, laptop, and account and completely delete any objectionable material.
