New Delhi : Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the second national conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) heads of states and union territories in the national capital Delhi today. According to the Home Ministry, the organizer of this two-day conference is the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
Shah will also launch an online drug destruction campaign along with releasing the Annual Report-2024 of NCB on this occasion. Representatives of various government departments along with ANTF heads of 36 states and union territories will participate in the conference. The theme of the conference this year is 'Joint Resolve, Shared Responsibility'. Its objective is to strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi's resolve for a drug-free India and prepare a concrete roadmap for achieving this goal.
The conference will discuss various aspects including reducing the supply, demand and harm of narcotics. Along with this, the steps required to strengthen the law enforcement related to narcotics with implications of national security will be discussed. Whole of Government approach to deal with illegal laboratories, monitoring of fugitives, management of foreign criminals and smuggling through dark web and crypto currency has been given prominence in the agenda.
Six technical sessions will be held during the conference. One session will focus on Drug-Free India @ 2047. The session focused on integrated investigation will discuss the strategy of top to bottom and bottom to top approach. It is worth mentioning that the Modi government has adopted a 'zero tolerance' policy against narcotics. In 2021, Home Minister Amit Shah had directed all the states and union territories to set up dedicated anti-narcotics task forces. In April 2023, Shah inaugurated the first national conference of these task force heads.
