Sixth round of talks begins on proposed trade agreement between India and US

New Delhi : Chief negotiators of India and the US have started talks on the proposed trade agreement on Tuesday. In the sixth round of talks between the two countries in New Delhi, efforts will be made to resolve issues in view of the heavy tariffs creating uncertainty for exporters.

For the proposed bilateral trade talks (BTA) between India and the US, Assistant US Trade Representative for South and Central Asia Brendan Lynch is leading the US team, while Special Secretary in the Commerce Department Rajesh Agarwal is the chief negotiator for India. Lynch arrived in India late Monday night for one-day talks amid softening of President Donald Trump's stance.

This is the first visit of a high-ranking US trade official after imposing a 25 per cent tariff and an additional 25 per cent penalty on Indian goods entering the US market to buy crude oil from Russia.
