Sanjay Vidrohi demanded formation of ultra-special fast-track court for prevention of corruption – sent memorandum to PM, CJI and Home Minister

Jharkhand/Ranchi: There is deep concern among the general public and social organizations due to the ever-increasing cases of corruption across the country. Amidst the questions being raised on the credibility of the administration, now the demand for concrete legal reforms in this direction has come to the fore. In this sequence, a memorandum has been sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Sanjay Kumar Vidrohi, member of Jharkhand State Bar Council and General Secretary of Ranchi District Bar Association. A copy of this memorandum has also been sent to the Chief Justice, Supreme Court and Union Home Minister. In the memorandum, there has been a demand for formation of ultra-special (ultra-fast-track) court for anti-corruption cases, and implementation of the provision of automatic termination of service of officers and employees found guilty by constitutional amendment.

Recent examples of corruption

It has been mentioned in the memorandum that the cases of corruption coming to light every day are tarnishing the image of the entire governance system. Recently, an employee of Dhanbad (BCCL) was caught red-handed taking bribe. CBI arrested senior manager of UCO Bank while accepting bribe. Bribery worth crores was exposed in several districts including Bokaro. Serious allegations have been leveled against an IAS officer in Jharkhand, which has made the situation more worrying. There are hundreds of such examples. Recently, crores of rupees were stolen from an engineer in the capital of Bihar. These examples have proved that corruption is deeply spread not only at the lower level but also in the higher administrative structure.

Root of the problem:

The memorandum states that due to the long and complicated judicial process, the settlement of corruption cases remains pending for years. Meanwhile, the accused officers/employees become active in their roles again after being suspended or on bail and the corrupt people lack fear.

Proposed solution

Three concrete measures have been suggested in the memorandum—

Formation of ultra-fast-track courts

Special courts should be formed for hearing corruption cases.

Each case should be settled within a maximum of six months.

These will speed up the judicial process and send a strong message to corrupt officials.
