West Singhbhum/ Chaibasa: Deputy Commissioner Chandan Kumar on Sunday clarified the discontent and confusion that has arisen in recent times regarding the Munda-Manki tradition in the Kolhan region and said that the Munda-Manki system is an integral part of the tradition and governance system of the region, and it will be maintained as before.
In a press release issued by the Deputy Commissioner on Sunday, it was told that Munda-Manki are important parts of the revenue system, and the tradition of issuing genealogy will continue as before. If for some reason the Munda is absent or has passed away, then the concerned Manki will issue the genealogy. If both are unavailable, then the genealogy will be issued from traditional options.
The administration also informed that in the last two-three months, appointments have been made on the vacant Munda-Manki posts through the Gram Sabha and the remaining vacant posts will be filled soon.
Regarding the complaints received against Munda-Manki, the administration clarified that any kind of action will be taken only on the basis of the investigation report of the Kolhan Superintendent or Munda-Manki Nyay Panch. No Munda or Manki will be removed from the post without solid evidence.
The administration also warned that some anti-social elements are spreading confusion in the society by spreading misleading information through social media. The administration clarified that at present no Munda or Manki has been removed from the post. If in future any person is found spreading such rumors, strict action will be taken against him.
Apart from this, the district administration said that lack of information has been observed among the general public and Munda-Manki regarding Hukuknama, Wilkinson Rules and other traditional rules. That is why workshops will be organized regularly by the administration so that people can get complete information about their rights and responsibilities.
The administration has respectfully acknowledged the contribution of the Munda-Manki system in the Kolhan region and has requested all concerned to participate in the Guwa Shaheed Tribute-cum-Asset Distribution Programme.
