Continuous heavy rain worsens the situation, rivers in spate, alert in many districts

 

Madhya Pradesh/Bhopal: The impact of monsoon is continuously deepening in Madhya Pradesh. The series of heavy rains that started on Friday is not stopping even on Saturday. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in many parts of the state. Along with big cities like Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal, Gwalior and Jabalpur, alert has also been issued in Jhabua, Dhar, Shajapur, Rajgarh, Guna, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Ratlam, Agar-Malwa and Sheopur districts.

The department says that at present three weather systems are active simultaneously in the state, which include a clear low pressure area and monsoon trough. Due to this, it is raining continuously and flood-like conditions have been created in many places. This situation is expected to remain for the next 48 hours. Meteorologist Ved Prakash Singh said that from 1st to 5th September, 25% more rainfall than the long term average, 22% more than average in eastern Madhya Pradesh, 28% more than average in western Madhya Pradesh has already occurred.

Heavy rains have been continuing in the western and northern parts of the state since Friday. Heavy rains have fallen at many places in Malwa-Nimar region. Due to the rising water level of Shipra river in Ujjain, low lying areas were flooded. In Ratlam, two feet of water started flowing on the roads. Water entered many houses and shops in Ujjain. In view of the possibility of heavy rains, holiday has been declared in schools and Anganwadis in Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior and Dhar. In Indore, the district administration has ordered to keep all government and private schools closed on Saturday.

Talking about the rainfall figures, on Friday, two and a quarter inches of water was recorded in Ujjain, one and a half inches in Indore and one inch in Shivpuri. Apart from this, light to moderate rain continued in Bhopal, Datia, Guna, Gwalior, Narmadapuram, Ratlam, Seoni, Tikamgarh, Balaghat, Dhar, Barwani, Sheopur, Vidisha and Morena. Due to heavy rains, rivers and streams have overflowed and incidents of accidents are also coming to the fore. A car was swept away from the Kalisindh river bridge in Sarangpur of Rajgarh district, in which the son of a local BJP leader was riding.

In Nandyasi village of Ujjain district also, while crossing the bridge, the car was swept away in the Bagedi river, although the villagers rescued the driver safely. The Kuno river is in spate in Sheopur district. Due to this, a pregnant woman of Dimarchha village was taken out by the police and SDRF team by boat and taken to the hospital. On the other hand, in Ratangarh of Neemuch district, the Bolero car of the health department officials got stuck in the strong current of the river. The car stopped after hitting a tree after flowing for some distance and the people present on the spot rescued the doctors and the driver safely.

Grandfather and grandson drowned while bathing in Sukhtawa river in Itarsi, their bodies were recovered the next day. Four houses collapsed in Multhan village of Dhar district, while walls and markets were also submerged in Manawar and Kesur areas. The water level of Narmada river in Maheshwar of Khargone district has been recorded four meters above normal.

Special vigilance is being maintained in the coastal areas of Narmada river. Alert has been issued in Mandleshwar and Maheshwar and people are being advised to go to safer places by making announcements in low-lying areas. Gates of Omkareshwar and Indira Sagar dams have been opened. The water level of Narmada has increased rapidly due to release of about 10 thousand cumecs of water from Omkareshwar. 70 mm of rain was recorded in Dewas in two hours, due to which many colonies were waterlogged. An average of 1128 mm of rain has been recorded in Ratlam district so far, while 726.5 mm of rain has been recorded in Dewas district.

The situation has worsened due to the confluence of Chambal and Kuno rivers in Sheopur district. Dimarchha village of Veerpur tehsil was completely surrounded by water. 16 people including a pregnant woman have been rescued from here. The water level of Chambal and Kwari rivers in Bhind has reached near the danger mark. Water is being released continuously from Madikheda Dam in Shivpuri district, due to which Sindh river is in spate in Datia district and water has reached the bridge.

Due to continuous heavy rains, life has been disrupted in many districts. Roads and markets are submerged, many villages are cut off and the administration has to carry out continuous rescue operations. The Meteorological Department has made it clear that this series of rains will continue for the next two days. The state government has instructed the collectors of all the affected districts to remain on alert, keep teams deployed for relief and rescue work and send people from low-lying areas to safe places.
