Sports: India performed strongly on the second day of the World Boxing Championship. Sumit Kundu in the men's 75 kg category and Neeraj Phogat in the women's 65 kg category won and made it to the pre-quarterfinals. At the same time, women boxer Jasmine also entered the last-16 round with a brilliant win in the 57 kg category.
Sumit defeated Jordan's Mohammed Alhussein 5-0. Sumit, who is returning to a major tournament after two years, played the match in an aggressive manner and constantly put pressure and hit brilliant power-packed punches. Now Sumit's next match will be against Paris Olympian Rami Kivan of Bulgaria.
Neeraj Phogat defeated Finland's Krista Kovalainen 3-2 in a tough match. Neeraj hit brilliant head shots in the first round, however, Krista made a comeback in the second round. In the third and decisive round, Neeraj maintained the lead and made it to the pre-quarterfinals against Sacha Hickey of England.
Paris Olympian and World Boxing Cup gold medalist Jasmine entered the pre-quarterfinals by defeating Daria-Olha Hutarina of Ukraine 5-0. After a slow start in the first round, Jasmine caught the rhythm and secured victory with strong punches. Now she will face 2023 Pan American Games champion Jusilen Cerqueira of Brazil.
Earlier on Thursday, World Youth Gold Medalist Sanmacha (70 kg) defeated Denmark's Diti Frostholm 4-1. Now she will take on Kazakhstan's Natalya Bogdanova.
However, India suffered a setback in the men's 90 kg category. Harsh Chaudhary was eliminated in the opening round after losing to Adam Tutak of Poland. The referee stopped the match in the third round and declared Harsh defeated.
