West Singhbhum: In an old defamation case related to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the MP-MLA Special Court in Chaibasa has fixed the date of next hearing as September 6. On Monday, on behalf of Rahul Gandhi, former Jharkhand Pradesh Congress President Rajesh Thakur reached the court with his advocate Subhash Mishra and submitted an application for exemption from personal appearance.
During the hearing in the court, the advocate of the complainant side sought time, which was accepted by Special Judge Supriya Rani Tigga and fixed the date of next hearing as September six. It is noteworthy that this case is related to the alleged objectionable remarks made by Rahul Gandhi against the then BJP National President Amit Shah during a Congress session in the year 2018. In this case, Chaibasa resident BJP leader Pratap Katiyar had filed a complaint in the court on 9 July 2018.
In the course of hearing this, the Chaibasa court had issued a bailable warrant against Rahul Gandhi in April 2022, but no action was taken on it. After this, in February 2024, the court issued a non-bailable warrant.
The court had earlier rejected Rahul Gandhi's demand for exemption from personal appearance, however, after getting relief from the High Court, his petition was accepted in March 2024. After this, on August 6, 2025, Rahul Gandhi had to personally appear in the Chaibasa court. Now the hearing of this case will be held on September 6.
