
Essay, Painting Competition and Street Play Organized on Drug De-Addiction

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ranchi organized a series of legal awareness programmes aimed at protecting youth from drug abuse. The programme is being conducted under the ‘DON–2025’ scheme of the (NALSA) and is scheduled from 05 January to 12 January 2026.
On 06 January 2026, an essay and painting competition based on the theme “Ill Effects of Drug Abuse” was organized among students at Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls’ School, Kanke. A large number of students participated enthusiastically. During the programme, students were also sensitized about the harmful physical, mental and social effects of drug addiction.
Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of DLSA, Ranchi addressed the students and advised them to stay away from drugs, highlighting that addiction severely affects health and future prospects. PLVs Rajendra Mahato, Sharda Devi, Malti Devi, Babita Kumari, Sangeeta Devi, Sarita Devi and Mashira Khatoon were present on the occasion.
A similar drug de-addiction awareness programme was also organized at another Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls’ School, where PLVs Lata Kumari, Preeti Kumari and Tara Minj were present. A painting competition was conducted, in which the students participated with great zeal and creativity.
PLV Lata Kumari stated that the DON–2025 scheme is being implemented by NALSA with the objective of freeing youth and students from drug addiction through awareness. PLV Preeti Kumari explained the harmful effects of drugs on the human brain, while Tara Minj informed students that de-addiction centres also help people quit addiction through medicines and counselling.
Meanwhile, at the Vendor Market, Doranda Bazaar, Ranchi, a street play was performed by the Rang Darpan, Ranchi team to spread the message of a drug-free society among the youth. On this occasion, PLVs of DLSA, Ranchi—Prahlad Kumar, Santosh Kumar, Suraj Kumar and Rishabh Jaiswal—were present.
The street play team, led by director and actor Ashok Gop, along with artists Himanshu, Rohit, Dharmendra Kashyap, Sumant, Varsha and Sharmishtha, delivered a powerful performance and played an active role in promoting the awareness campaign.
