Abduction of 16-year-old girl visiting RIMS for treatment: Youth took her away under the pretext of getting medicine; safely recovered thanks to the alertness of PCR-28
Ranchi: A case of abduction involving a 16-year-old tribal girl has come to light from RIMS, the capital's largest government hospital, exposing lapses in security. An unidentified youth abducted her by tricking her with the promise of getting her medicine. Fortunately, the PCR-28 team patrolling the ITI area spotted the victim in time, averting a major tragedy.
Had arrived with her sister for her elder brother's treatment
According to reports, 16-year-old Mangri Kumari (name changed)—a resident of the Bishunpur police station area in Gumla district—had arrived at RIMS by ambulance late Friday night (around 1:00 AM) with her elder sister, Subo Devi, for medical treatment. While the sisters were in the trauma center complex, a cunning youth gained the minor's trust and asked her to accompany him under the pretext of getting medicine.
Attempted molestation en route
Around 3:00 AM, the young man took the minor out of the RIMS premises on a motorcycle. After driving around for a while, he took her to a secluded area and attempted to molest her. Faced with strong resistance from the minor, the young man panicked, abandoned her midway, and fled.
Police vigilance saved her
Around 4:30 AM, the PCR-28 team patrolling the ITI area spotted the teenager alone and terrified by the roadside. Suspicious, the police officers stopped their vehicle and questioned her. Weeping, the minor recounted the entire incident. Her identity was confirmed through the RIMS medical slip she was carrying. The police immediately took her into protective custody and brought her back to the trauma center.
Family expresses gratitude to the police
Meanwhile, Subo Devi had been in a state of shock after her sister suddenly disappeared from outside the trauma center and had been searching for her everywhere. She breathed a sigh of relief when the PCR team arrived with the minor and the sisters were reunited. Sister Subo Devi thanked the police team and commended their prompt action.
