Will protest if contract workers do not get their rights: Ajay Rai

Jharkhand/Ranchi: An important meeting of the Indian Institution of Coal Management (IICM) Workers Union was held on Wednesday at the IICM campus. The meeting was chaired by the union's president Ajay Rai. It was unanimously decided in the meeting that if the management does not take timely action on the problems of contract workers, then the union will stage a phased protest.

On this occasion, President Ajay Rai said that the decision of the Board of Directors of Coal India to provide insurance, housing, education and health facilities to contract workers is commendable, but the IICM management has not implemented these schemes till now, due to which there is deep resentment among the workers. If this happens, a fierce protest will be carried out. He said that contract workers no longer want hollow assurances, but will fight for their rights. If immediate action is not taken, the union will take to the streets and fight a do-or-die battle.

Rai said that the payment of EL, gratuity and bonus has been stopped for two months and the salary for the month of August has also not been paid. If payment is not made within seven days, serious consequences will have to be faced. Also, demand was made to implement insurance, medical, housing, education and literacy schemes.

The workers warned in one voice that if action is not taken within 15 days, the IICM Workers Union will launch a statewide movement and the entire responsibility for this will be of the management and the officials of the Gold Field Company.

A large number of workers including Vijay Sharma, Manoj Singh, Dharmendra Kumar, Veer Bahadur Singh, Nitesh Kumar Singh, Pritam Yadav, Ramesh Sahu, Anupama Sahu, Sadhna Sinha, Sushila Kumari, Poonam Dubey were present in the meeting.
