SDO Court vs. Bar Association! Judicial work halted for three days

A dispute has escalated after the Court of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDO), Sadar Ranchi, issued show-cause notices to 35 advocates and office-bearers of the Ranchi District Bar Association (RDBA) in the *Puja Kumari vs. Sanjay Kumar Chaturvedi* case (Section 126 BNSS). In protest against these notices, the RDBA has announced a boycott of judicial work from August 4 to August 6.
On Monday, a General Body (GB) meeting was held at the RDBA building in the presence of Ad-hoc Committee members Shambhu Prasad Agrawal, Mukesh Kumar Keshri, and Sanjay Kumar Vidrohi. The meeting characterized the SDO Court's actions as baseless and unnecessary steps taken against the Bar Association. A decision to launch a phased agitation was unanimously adopted during the meeting.
Agitation Outline
August 4: Since the Civil Courts are closed, advocates will completely boycott only the Executive Courts.
August 5: There will be a complete boycott of all judicial work, including both Civil and Executive Courts, and advocates will remain on strike.
August 6: A condolence meeting will be held at 1:30 PM. No judicial work will be conducted thereafter. Following the condolence meeting, a General Body meeting will be convened to determine the future course of action.
It was also decided during the meeting that disciplinary action would be taken against any advocate who violates the Ad-hoc Committee's decision. All advocates were urged to strictly adhere to the committee's resolutions.
Judicial work in Ranchi is likely to be disrupted from August 4 to August 6 following this decision. All eyes are now on the direction this dispute between the SDO Court and the Bar Association will take next.
