Ranchi News: The Jharkhand High Court has taken a tough stand on ensuring a complete ban on the use of prohibited plastic in the state. A division bench of Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Rajesh Shankar has sought a detailed report from the DGP, asking what action has been taken so far against the use of banned plastic materials and whether the ban is being effectively implemented on the ground. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for January 5.
The Court has also directed the Ranchi Deputy Commissioner to furnish updated information regarding the scientific disposal of waste in the district. Additionally, the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board has been asked to submit details of legal actions taken so far in cases related to noise, air and water pollution.
The High Court further ordered that obtaining prior permission from the Pollution Control Board will now be mandatory for any public gathering in the state. Event organisers will have to deposit a security amount with the Board, which will be refunded only after confirmation of proper cleanliness at the venue. If the venue is not cleaned, the deposited amount will be forfeited.
These directives were issued during the hearing of a PIL filed by Ram Kishore, which raised concerns about pollution being caused by industries in Ramgarh. Expressing serious concern over rising pollution levels, the Court said strict compliance with environmental protection laws is essential.
