Jharkhand High Court Orders High-Level Committee to Restore Ranchi’s Lost Glory

First Meeting on December 10; Next Hearing December 12

Ranchi News: The Jharkhand High Court has expressed strong displeasure over the deteriorating condition of Ranchi city and directed the state government and concerned departments to take immediate, concrete measures for its overall improvement. The division bench headed by Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan said that resolving Ranchi’s civic problems requires bringing all stakeholders onto a single platform. With this objective, the court has announced the formation of a high-level committee.

As per the court’s direction, the committee will hold its first meeting on 10 December 2025 at 5 PM in the office of the Advocate General, Rajiv Ranjan. The court has emphasized that all designated members should be present physically, though virtual participation will be allowed if necessary. The matter will be heard next on 12 December.

The committee, chaired by Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan, will include:
– Chief Secretary, Government of Jharkhand
– Managing Director, Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited
– Director General of Police
– Principal Secretary, Urban Development & Housing Department
– Principal Secretary, Energy Department
– Chairman-cum-MD, Ranchi Smart City Corporation
– Ranchi Municipal Commissioner
– Deputy Commissioner, Ranchi
– SSP, Ranchi
– Traffic SP
– Additional Solicitor General
– President and Secretary, Jharkhand High Court Advocates Association

The public interest litigation was filed by the Jharkhand High Court Advocates Association, demanding effective action on civic issues including sanitation, traffic management, electricity supply, water distribution and other essential services. The court made it clear that maintaining the capital city’s infrastructure is the government’s primary responsibility and delays will no longer be tolerated.
