Jharkhand/Ranchi: Chief Pahan Jaglal Pahan stated that one must be born into a tribal family, not through any movement. Tribals have their own conservative traditions, in which all rituals from birth to death are performed by the Pahan. Meanwhile, the Kurmi-Kudumi community invites Brahmins and Pandits to perform rituals for religious and social events, including births and deaths. Therefore, considering them tribals is inappropriate. Jaglal Pahan was addressing a gathering on Saturday after a protest march organized by the Tribal Bachao Morcha and various organizations from Morabadi Maidan to Albert Ekka Chowk.
Hundreds of people participated in the march, led by Bablu Munda, President of the Central Sarna Committee, demonstrating tribal unity. He stated that there are many inequalities that clearly demonstrate that Kurmis or Kudmis can never be tribals.
On the occasion, Bablu Munda stated that the Kurmi and Kudmi communities only seek tribal status in Jharkhand for reservation and political gain. He questioned why the state and central governments are silent on programs like Rail Teka and Dahar Chheka. He warned that under no circumstances will the Kurmi and Kudmi communities be allowed to be included as tribals. If the tribal community is provoked, it will lead to a major uprising in the tradition of martyrs like Bhagwan Birsa Munda, Sidhu-Kanhu, Chand-Bhairav, Veer Budhu Bhagat, and Telanga Khadia.
The protest march and meeting were led by Mahadev Toppo, General Secretary, Central Sarna Committee.
Hundreds of tribal members, including Shivdhan Munda, Ranjan Munda, Rajesh Pahan, Amar Munda, Munna Hemrom, Mukesh Munda, Ashish Munda, Jageshwar Munda, Daridra Pahan, Manish Oraon, Lal Mahali, Anjan Munda, Vishal Munda, and Rohit Munda, attended the event.
