National Roundtable Conference Held Under the Leadership of the Election Commission of India
New Delhi: Under the National Declaration 2026, a National Roundtable Conference of State Election Commissioners was held under the leadership of the Election Commission of India. The conference emphasized the importance of transparent and efficient election conduct, emphasizing the need for accurate and updated voter lists as the foundation of democracy.
The Commission recommended sharing world-class infrastructure such as ECINET, EVMs, Voter List Management System, and IIIDEM with all State Election Commissions to ensure uniformity and coordination in electoral processes. There was also agreement on enhancing coordination between laws related to Panchayat and Municipal elections and the electoral provisions of Parliament and State Legislatures.
The Commission called upon State Election Commissions to actively participate in international activities and proposed holding such conferences annually. A joint legal and technical team will submit a detailed proposal within three months.
