Elephant worth Rs 1 crore stolen from Uttar Pradesh to Palamu

Jharkhand/Palamu: A case of theft of an elephant worth Rs 1 crore has come to light in Palamu district. The mahout has absconded with the elephant. However, the matter of relief is that the elephant has a chip attached to it, on the basis of which the forest department and the police team are trying to trace it. In this connection, Narendra Kumar Shukla, a resident of Nadini of Vindhyachal in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, has lodged a case in Medininagar Sadar police station on Friday.

Narendra has told the police that he had got an elephant named Jayamati on a contract from a person named Sangam Lal. There was no arrangement for food and water in his village area, due to which he had come to Jharkhand with the elephant. He had handed over the responsibility of taking care of the elephant to Munna Pandey, a resident of Mirzapur and Munna Pathak, a resident of Mirzapur Chunar. Both of them became friends with Tadkeshwar Nath, the owner of another elephant.

Both of them had reached Jorkat area of ​​Medininagar Sadar police station area of ​​Palamu with the female elephant. Narendra said that he reached Palamu on 11th August. He found the female elephant and the mahout in Jorkat area. When he returned to Jorkat in Palamu on 13th August, he saw that both the female elephant and the mahout were missing. He searched for the female elephant in many areas of Jharkhand including Palamu, but neither the female elephant nor the mahout was found. Finally, he lodged an FIR after a month.

Sadar police station in-charge Lalji said on Saturday that Narendra Shukla has told the police that the price of the female elephant is Rs. 1 crore. Investigation is going on and an FIR has been registered. The forest department has been informed about the chip being fitted in the female elephant, on the basis of which the location of the female elephant is being traced.
