File a status report in the light of DALSA's suggestion to overcome the drinking water crisis: High Court

Ranchi: A division bench headed by Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice SS Ramachandra Rao heard a PIL filed on Thursday to overcome the drinking water crisis in Pahi village of Senha block of Lohardaga. During the hearing, the state government assured the court that soon proper arrangements for drinking water will be made for the people in Pahi village of Senha block of Lohardaga. During this, the Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Lohardaga inspected the village and submitted a report, in which it was said that there is a drinking water crisis in the village. On this, the court expressed dissatisfaction over the government's reply and said that drinking water is an essential thing for the life of the people. There should not be a shortage of it. Drinking water should be made available to the people of that village as soon as possible.

       The court has directed the government to file a status report in the light of DALSA's suggestion. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for July 3. In this regard, a petition has been filed in the High Court on behalf of Bhola Bhagat. It has been said in the petition that there is drinking water crisis in Pahi village, the solar pumps and hand pumps are out of order. There is a big water tank, that too is out of order. The government has installed two-three taps from which very little water falls. The water of the well is not potable, in such a situation arrangement of drinking water should be made for the villagers. It was said by the government that there is no drinking water crisis in that village. Some taps have been installed to overcome the drinking water crisis. When the petitioner opposed the statement of the government, the court asked the DALSA Secretary to inspect that village and submit a report.
