Web of Encroachment Deepens at Pandara Market Committee

After 177 Traders, Laborers' Shanties Now Become a Concern; Action Put on the Back Burner!

Ranchi: The issue of encroachment at the Pandara Agricultural Produce Market Committee is continuously escalating. While it has already been confirmed that 177 traders have encroached upon thousands of square feet of land, a new issue has now surfaced involving laborers who have set up shanties and are residing there on a large scale.

A spot inspection conducted by a correspondent from *M Bharat 24 News LIVE* revealed that a significant number of laborers are living within the Market Committee premises in makeshift shanties. Consequently, the situation regarding disorder and encroachment within the Market Committee area is becoming increasingly critical.

According to sources, the then-Secretary of the Market Committee—who had raised his voice against the encroachments committed by both traders and laborers—was himself sidelined. It is reported that the Secretary had written to the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Sadar subdivision, Ranchi, labeling the encroachment as illegal and requesting administrative action. Following this, the SDO forwarded a letter to the Hehal Circle Office to initiate action, and the process of issuing notices had begun.

However, despite these administrative initiatives, no concrete action is visible on the ground. Speculation regarding the Secretary being sidelined is rife across the city, while the encroachment situation remains unchanged.

The most pressing question now arising is: if the encroachment has already been officially confirmed at the administrative level, why is effective action still failing to materialize? The continuously growing encroachment within the Market Committee premises has sparked resentment among both traders and the general public.

It is noteworthy that the Pandara Agricultural Produce Market Committee is counted among the largest agricultural markets in the state, facilitating daily business transactions worth crores of rupees. This market is considered to play a pivotal role in Jharkhand's economy. Given this context, if the Market Committee is not made encroachment-free and equipped with adequate facilities, it will erode the confidence of the traders, which could, in turn, have a direct adverse impact on the state's economy.
