Nationwide Strike on February 12 Against Power Sector Privatization, Engineers Warn of Immediate Action if Bill Tabled
New Delhi:
Power engineers across the country have announced a nationwide strike on February 12, 2026, opposing privatization in the power sector and the proposed Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The strike notice has been formally submitted to the Union Power Minister by the (AIPEF), which represents engineers working in state power utilities, the Central Electricity Authority, DVC and BBMB.
AIPEF has warned that if the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025 is introduced during the Budget Session of Parliament, power engineers and employees will launch an immediate “lightning action,” including walkouts and mass protests.
AIPEF Chairman Shailendra Dubey stated that the proposed bill and the National Electricity Policy 2026 threaten public ownership, affordable power, federal structure and national energy security. The federation has strongly opposed multi-licensing in distribution, prepaid smart metering, PPP models, outsourcing and contractualisation of jobs, demanding a complete halt to privatization and restoration of old pension benefits.
