Review Meeting Held to Strengthen Maternal Health Services in Ranchi
Ranchi, August 14, 2026: A review meeting on maternal and child health services was held on Friday at the Civil Surgeon’s Office auditorium to further improve the quality and effectiveness of healthcare services in the district. The meeting was chaired by Civil Surgeon Dr. Amarendra Prasad, with detailed discussions on the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, maternal mortality, antenatal care and healthcare delivery in rural areas.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Virendra Kumar Singh, Regional Deputy Director; Sheshnath Baitha, District Statistical Officer; Dr. Prabhavati, MOIC, Namkum; Dr. Sujit Kashyap; District Programme Manager Praveen Kumar Singh; DPC Preeti Choudhary; DDM Sanjay Tiwari, along with doctors, district-level officials, Block Programme Managers and other health workers.
Focus on Regular Antenatal Check-ups
Civil Surgeon Dr. Amarendra Prasad directed officials to ensure timely registration of pregnant women and regular Antenatal Care (ANC) check-ups. He emphasized early identification of high-risk pregnancies, necessary investigations and treatment, and timely referral wherever required.
Emphasis on Institutional Deliveries
The meeting also focused on encouraging pregnant women to opt for institutional deliveries and ensuring prompt and appropriate medical care during emergencies. Health institutions were directed to make better use of available resources and further improve the quality of maternal healthcare services.
Review of Maternal Deaths
Under the Maternal Death Review (MDR) system, officials were asked to identify the causes of maternal deaths and undertake corrective measures to prevent recurrence. Health institutions were also instructed to keep maternal health-related data and reports updated on time.
Strengthening Services in Rural Areas
Special emphasis was placed on strengthening Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Day (VHSND) services to reach pregnant women in rural and remote areas. Discussions covered regular ANC check-ups, nutrition counselling, health awareness and referral services.
