SIR-2026: Efforts to Keep All Voters of a Family at One Polling Station, 311 Additional Officers Appointed in Jharkhand
Hearings on discrepancies, no-map voters and other errors in the electoral roll to begin from August 24
Ranchi, August 12, 2026: As part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of the electoral roll, 311 additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) have been appointed in Jharkhand to ensure the timely disposal of claims, objections and related cases. The appointments were approved by the Election Commission of India following proposals received from the districts.
Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar said the period for issuing notices, conducting hearings and disposing of related cases under the claims and objections phase will continue from August 5 to October 3, 2026. The appointment of additional officers is expected to speed up the processing of applications, no-map voters, logical discrepancies and other related matters.
He said the hearing process to correct discrepancies, no-map cases and other errors in the electoral roll will begin from August 24, 2026. During the process, notices will be issued to concerned voters, hearings will be conducted and relevant documents will be verified before cases are disposed of in a transparent and time-bound manner.
Focus on Keeping Family Members at the Same Polling Station
The Chief Electoral Officer said the additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will also work to ensure that voters belonging to the same family are kept at the same polling station during the SIR exercise.
They will also facilitate the Home-to-Roll process and work to ensure that no eligible Indian citizen is left out of the electoral roll and no foreign citizen is included in the voters’ list.
According to the Election Department, the appointments of the additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will remain effective until completion of the Special Intensive Revision-2026 process. Their deployment is aimed at making the hearing, verification and disposal of claims and objections more efficient, transparent and time-bound.
