BJP Must Answer on Jharkhand’s Mineral Rights: Vinod Kumar Pandey
Ranchi, August 14, 2026: JMM General Secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey accused the BJP of creating confusion over Jharkhand’s mineral rights and revenue. He said the BJP must clarify whether Jharkhand’s rights over its mineral resources will remain with the state or be controlled from Delhi.
Pandey said the JMBL Cess was introduced based on the state’s constitutional rights and is expected to generate significant revenue for Jharkhand. He questioned why central conditions would be needed on states’ power to impose taxes and cess on mineral-bearing land if the proposed law does not affect state rights.
He said mining causes displacement, environmental pressure and additional burdens on local infrastructure, making it necessary for the state to mobilize additional resources for development in mining-affected areas.
Pandey said JMM will continue to strongly defend Jharkhand’s rights over its mineral resources and the principles of federalism. He demanded that the BJP give a clear answer on Jharkhand’s mineral revenue and constitutional rights.
