Ranchi, August 10: The BJP has announced a Jharkhand bandh on August 11 demanding a CBI inquiry into the alleged lathi-charge on students and irregularities in recruitment examinations. BJP State President Aditya Sahu announced the bandh at a joint press conference with Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi at the state office.
Aditya Sahu said that the Jharkhand bandh will begin at 8 am. Essential services will remain operational during the bandh. He said that pilgrims will not be inconvenienced and appealed to workers for positive cooperation.
The State President alleged that for the past 17 days, students have been protesting to awaken the state government and demand a CBI investigation into all recruitment examinations conducted in the last seven years, including the 14th JPSC PT exam. Instead of heeding their demands, the government adopted a repressive approach.
Aditya Sahu stated that the government treated the students like criminals. He stated that they were lathi-charged four times, and that they were even beaten around 9 p.m. He claimed that hundreds of students were injured in the crackdown, and several others were reported missing.
He stated that the alleged dictatorship of the Hemant government, supported by the Congress, would not endure. The BJP accused the government of deceiving the students in the name of talks and vowed to stand with the protesting students 24 hours a day.
Rahul Gandhi's silence also questioned
Aditya Sahu questioned the silence of the Congress and Rahul Gandhi. He stated that Rahul Gandhi should speak directly to the Hemant government. Congress should either order a CBI investigation by the state government or announce its withdrawal of support.
Babulal Marandi also targeted the government
Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi said that students have been protesting at Ranchi's Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium for the past 15 days demanding a CBI investigation into alleged rigging and job sales in the JPSC and JSSC examinations. He alleged that the government has been continuously delaying the students in the name of talks.
Marandi described the action taken against the students as barbaric and said that this is not the first time. According to him, students have been subjected to atrocities since 2024. He said that this time the students are standing firmly in the field, and the government did not even allow them to set up tents.
Referring to allegations of irregularities in recruitment exams
Referring to various recruitment exams held over the past six years, Babulal Marandi questioned the release of the results of the JSSC Assistant Professor Recruitment Exam in a piecemeal manner. He also mentioned allegations that students were taken to Nepal to memorize questions for the JSSC-CGL exam.
He stated that the CID investigation in this case had begun in the right direction, but the investigation team was later changed. Marandi alleged that attempts were made to suppress the case after the investigation began under the leadership of Manoj Kaushik.
Marandi also mentioned allegations of alleged rigging in the PGT examination. He raised the issue of the deaths of 17 youth during the excise constable recruitment race and alleged irregularities in the JPSC 11th, 13th, and 14th examinations.
He also raised questions about the CID arrest of former JPSC Chairman L. Kyangte. Marandi alleged that government agencies are working to undermine the cases instead of exposing the truth. He also accused the government of being lenient towards IAS Prashant Kumar, the acting chairman of the JSSC.
Demands the Chief Minister to order an immediate CBI investigation
Babulal Marandi said that the students of Jharkhand are only demanding an impartial CBI investigation into the entire matter. He questioned why the government believes there was no irregularity in the recruitment exams, so what was the problem with a CBI investigation?
He urged the Chief Minister to order a CBI investigation into the entire matter without delay if he truly believed in the students' interests and was not involved in any way.
State General Secretary Ganesh Mishra, Amar Kumar Bauri, Manoj Singh, and State Media Incharge Yogendra Pratap Singh, along with other BJP leaders, were present at the press conference.
