Shravani Mela 2026: 'Baba Nagari' to Go High-Tech; Pilgrims to Get Enhanced Facilities

The Jharkhand government has begun finalizing preparations to make the world-famous state-level Shravani Mela 2026 grand, safe, and well-organized. A high-level review meeting was held on Saturday at the Deoghar Circuit House, chaired by Sudivya Kumar, the Minister for Urban Development & Housing, Higher & Technical Education, Tourism, Art-Culture, Sports & Youth Affairs. The meeting involved a detailed review of fair preparations, pilgrim safety, and the use of modern technologies.
Minister Sudivya Kumar instructed officials to ensure that all preparations for the Shravani Mela—scheduled from July 30 to August 28—are completed without fail by July 28. This aims to provide the lakhs of pilgrims arriving from across the country with a safe *Jalarpan* (offering of holy water), superior facilities, and a pleasant experience.
Prioritizing pilgrim convenience, directives were issued to make the three 'Tent Cities' larger and more modern than before. Enhanced arrangements will be ensured within the fairgrounds for drinking water, toilets, bathing areas, health centers, information and help desks, maternity rest rooms, sanitation, waste disposal, street lighting, and uninterrupted power supply.
To provide relief from heat and humidity, the number of mist cooling systems and 'Indra Varsha' (water spray systems) units will be increased. Additionally, the entire fair area and Deoghar city will be given a grand look through attractive lighting, ceremonial arches, and special decorations.
This time, the Shravani Mela will also be equipped with modern technologies. To ensure pilgrim safety and smooth management, the event will utilize an AI-based integrated fair control room, face recognition cameras, an AI traffic management system, drone surveillance, ANPR cameras, a head-counting system, a QR-based grievance and feedback system, a location-based attendance system, and digital pavilions.
Pilgrims will be able to convey their complaints and suggestions directly to the district administration via the QR code-based feedback system, enabling the quick resolution of issues. Additionally, instructions were issued to the district administration and relevant departments to work in coordination to improve traffic arrangements on the Deoghar-Basukinath route.
Senior officials from various departments, including Deoghar MLA Suresh Paswan, Sarath MLA Uday Shankar Singh, Jarmundi MLA Devendra Kunwar, Deoghar Deputy Commissioner Saurabh Kumar Bhuwania, and Dumka Deputy Commissioner Abhijit Sinha, were present at the meeting.
