New Delhi: Congress has accused the Election Commission (ECI) of repeatedly disobeying the Supreme Court's instructions.
Congress General Secretary and party's communication department head Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X on Monday that the Supreme Court has ordered for the third time that Aadhaar should be considered a valid identity card for voter registration, but the ECI is reluctant to implement it. He said that the Election Commission is repeatedly creating obstacles to deliberately hinder the registration of valid voters.
Ramesh said in his post that the Election Commission refused to recognize the Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by political parties and also refused to accept Aadhaar. The Commission has also issued notices to the officials to validate only the documents accepted by it. Ramesh termed it as a mess created by the ECI itself and said that such a move before the elections is inappropriate.
Ramesh said that the history of the current Chief Election Commissioner and his institution will not forgive him. In the upcoming elections, the opposition has to face challenges from the Election Commission along with fighting against the ruling party.
