District-wise action should be taken forward to deploy disaster friends as Home Guard volunteers: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath

 

Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given instructions to immediately start the process of new enrollment on the vacant posts of Home Guards in the state. In view of the changing times and increasing responsibilities, emphasizing on amendment in the rules related to Home Guard enrollment, the Chief Minister has also given instructions to constitute a new board in collaboration with the Police Recruitment and Training Board to ensure timely, transparent and fair enrollment.

Chief Minister Yogi praised the role of Home Guard volunteers in law and order, traffic control and disaster situations in a high-level meeting held on Thursday. In the meeting, he was informed that at present 71,155 Home Guards are active in the state against the sanctioned posts of 1,18,348. About 38,000 volunteers will retire in the next ten years, while more than 51 percent of the volunteers above the age of fifty years are working in the existing force.

The Chief Minister said that the provisions related to eligibility, examination and selection should be improved to give more opportunities to the youth and to increase the quality of service. He suggested that the maximum age of enrollment should be 30 years to give a more youthful look to the force. Also, written examination should be made mandatory in the selection process, eligibility standards should be made timely and the testing system should be strengthened. The Chief Minister also said that priority should be given to people having experience or training related to disaster management.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to prepare a new enrollment system soon. He expressed confidence that by filling the vacancies, the Home Guard organization of Uttar Pradesh will emerge as more trained, capable and dedicated to public service.

In the meeting, departmental officials informed that the services of Home Guards are being taken in various fields including police administration, traffic management, educational institutions, health department, transport, mining, urban bodies, Doordarshan, Akashvani, FCI and development authorities. Home Guards have played a significant role in the recently held Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, election work of various states and events like Maha Kumbh-2025.

The Chief Minister was informed that all the processes of the department are being brought on the digital platform. Systems like duty allocation, payment of allowances, ex-gratia and pension have now become completely online. Initiatives like Home Guard Mitra App have made the functioning more simple and transparent. To strengthen the training system, a central training institute and 12 divisional training centers are active, where more than 15,000 volunteers are given regular and advanced training every year.

The Chief Minister expressed hope that after the implementation of the new enrollment system, the Home Guard force of Uttar Pradesh will become more professional and will work with full dedication in the service of the public.
