Ranchi: Hearing on the bail plea of suspended IAS officer Chhavi Ranjan, accused in the fraud case of 4.55 acres of army land, was completed in the Jharkhand High Court on Friday. The court of Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad has reserved its decision after the hearing. The court was told on behalf of Chhavi Ranjan that he has been in judicial custody for more than 25 months. His advocate, arguing in favor of the bail petition, said that he has been in jail since May 4, 2023, so he should be granted bail.
It is noteworthy that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had taken major action in the case related to the land scam on 13 and 14 April 2023. During this, raids were conducted at 22 locations of 18 people including suspended IAS Chhavi Ranjan, then Deputy Revenue Personnel of Bargai Zone, Bhanu Pratap Prasad. In this raid, ED recovered many fake deeds and documents. In this case, the ED has filed a chargesheet in the special PMLA court against 10 accused including Chhavi Ranjan and businessman Amit Agarwal. It is alleged that while holding the post of Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi, Chhavi Ranjan played a role in the purchase and sale of land on the basis of fake documents.
