Government did not give prosecution approval order against Pooja Singhal even after 120 days, ED sought permission for 'deemed sanction' from the court

Ranchi/ED: The state government has not yet approved the prosecution against IAS officer Pooja Singhal, who is facing serious allegations of money laundering of the amount of MNREGA scam. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had sought approval from the state government five months ago, but even after 120 days, no response was received from the government. Reacting to this, the ED has filed a petition in the court, requesting that the silence of the government be considered as deemed sanction in the light of a recent decision of the Supreme Court.

Citation of Supreme Court order It is worth noting that before the Supreme Court's decision in November 2024, the permission of the state government was not required to prosecute government officials in money laundering cases. But in the decision given in November 2024, the apex court clarified that it would be necessary to take prosecution approval before prosecuting government officials.
