Bronchoscopy in Sadar Hospital for the first time in Jharkhand

Ranchi: Diagnostic Bronchoscopy was performed for the first time in Sadar Hospital Ranchi by Dr. Souvik Sarkar, a doctor of the Department of Pulmonology (Lung Disease). The patient whose bronchoscopy was performed is a resident of Kanke Ranchi.

The patient has an infection(pneumonia) in his lungs. For its examination, mucus and water were removed from the lungs and windpipe by doing bronchoscopies (BAL-Broncho alveolar Lavage), through which more accurate information about the disease will be obtained and the patient will be able to get the right treatment. This was done for the first time in any government hospital in Jharkhand. In this entire process, surgeon in charge of OT complex Dr. Ajit Kumar, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Bimalesh Singh and Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar provided special support.

This is an advanced technique by which the windpipe and lungs can be reached and seen by inserting a telescope. This procedure is also used to take biopsy to confirm lung cancer. If needed, a foreign body (external object like coin) gets stuck, it can also be removed using this method and life can be saved.

The entire operation theatre team, especially Sister Nelly, Snehlata, Pharmacist Lalu Kumar, Sister Srishti, Neelam Rathore and Sandeep, provided special support in this entire procedure.
