New facility to strengthen judicial record security and digital infrastructure; lawyers and litigants to benefit from modern digital services
Ranchi, November 3, 2026: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant inaugurated the new Data Centre at the Jharkhand High Court along with six digital services on Monday, marking a significant step towards modernising the state's judicial infrastructure. The initiative aims to improve digital access, strengthen judicial administration and ensure the secure preservation of important court records.
Speaking on the occasion, Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice Justice M.S. Sonak said that the new Data Centre is not merely a technical infrastructure comprising servers, circuits and cables, but a secure custodian of important judicial records and citizens' rights. He described the facility as the foundation of the judiciary's digital infrastructure and said that its strength would determine the effectiveness of online judicial services.
Justice Sonak said the initiative is in line with CJI Surya Kant's vision of 'One Case, One Data', which aims to connect courts across the country through a common digital platform for better management and exchange of judicial information. He added that the High Court has developed its own in-house Data Centre to ensure data security and institutional control, eliminating dependence on private commercial cloud systems.
He further said that e-filing would accelerate judicial proceedings, while digitisation would help preserve historical judicial records and important documents. Protecting the privacy and confidentiality of citizens' information is equally important. Delivering the welcome address, Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi described the Data Centre as the digital backbone of the modern judiciary and highlighted the importance of initiatives such as the e-Courts project, electronic summons and mobile e-services.
Justice M.S. Sonak appreciated the support of the state administration, judicial officers, High Court Registry and technical team in establishing the facility. He said technological advancement must go hand in hand with the fundamental principles of the judiciary. Justice Anand Sen delivered the vote of thanks at the conclusion of the programme.
