Ranchi, November 3, 2026: The BJP has raised serious concerns over alleged irregularities in the voter list during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 in Barhait, Sahibganj district. BJP State Vice-President and State SIR Convenor Rakesh Prasad said that reports published in newspapers on October 31 had raised serious questions about the transparency and integrity of the electoral process. According to the reports, Mita Devi's name was allegedly recorded as Fatima Bibi in the voter list, while her father's name was changed to Nejamuddin Momin. A complaint has also surfaced alleging that documents were prepared under two different names using the same Aadhaar number.
Prasad said the matter could not be treated as an ordinary clerical error, as it directly concerns the credibility and impartiality of the electoral process. He emphasised that the voter list is the foundation of democracy and that any manipulation or deliberate alteration of voters' identities poses a serious threat to the democratic system. He added that the objective of SIR is to make electoral rolls accurate, transparent and error-free. He demanded an investigation into how the alleged changes occurred, who prepared the documents and who was responsible.
The BJP leader urged the Chief Electoral Officer of Jharkhand to order a high-level and impartial investigation, verify the documents and Aadhaar numbers concerned, and examine all suspicious modifications in the voter list. He also demanded strict action against any officials or employees found involved. Prasad further called for similar investigations in other parts of the state to ensure that no eligible voter is wrongly removed and no ineligible person is included in the electoral roll.
