Lohardaga, September 20, 2026: Lohardaga Police arrested two youths near Chatpati Chowk in Maina Bagicha area on Sunday night and recovered a total of 18.35 grams of brown sugar, police said.
According to the police, at around 8:30 PM on September 20, information was received that two youths had gathered near Chatpati Chowk allegedly to sell and consume brown sugar. Acting on the directions of senior officials, a police team was constituted to verify the information and take necessary action along with the Circle Officer, Sadar Circle, Lohardaga.
During the operation, the police found two youths in a suspicious condition near a closed shop close to Maina Bagicha Chatpati Chowk. The area was cordoned off and both suspects were apprehended with the assistance of armed police personnel.
The arrested youths were identified as Aryan Bhagat alias Aryandev Bhagat, 22, a resident of Nadiya, Lohardaga, and Uttam Oraon, 22, a resident of Ghaghra Basti, Ghaghra, Gumla, currently residing in the Nadiya area of Lohardaga.
During a search, police allegedly recovered 10.24 grams of brown sugar, including packaging material, from Aryan Bhagat and 8.11 grams of brown sugar, including packaging material, from Uttam Oraon. The seized substances were formally documented and taken into police custody.
In connection with the case, Lohardaga Police Station Case No. 131/26, dated September 20, 2026, has been registered under Sections 17(b), 21(b), 22(b) and 29 of the NDPS Act.
Both accused have been produced before the court and sent to judicial custody.
The police team involved in the operation included Police Inspector-cum-Station House Officer Ratnesh Mohan Thakur, Sub-Inspectors Adarsh Kumar and Pradeep Kachhap, Constables Piyush Toppo and Naresh Mahli, along with personnel from the Technical Branch and other police personnel.
