Kathmandu: Nepal Police said that 1,127 bodies had been recovered by Tuesday evening following devastating floods. The death toll is expected to rise, while 4,858 people remain missing.
Search and rescue operations are continuing, with authorities suspecting that some missing people may still be trapped in tunnels of hydropower projects. Foreign rescue teams are also assisting the operation.
The government has now begun shifting its focus from rescue and relief to rehabilitation of affected people. DNA testing may be conducted to identify unidentified bodies if relatives of missing persons provide fresh blood samples.
