Dhanbad MP-MLA Court Grants Relief in Police Misconduct and Obstruction Case; Bail Could Be Cancelled if Conditions Are Violated
Dhanbad, September 21, 2026: JLKM president and Dumri MLA Jairam Mahato has received major legal relief from the Dhanbad MP-MLA Court. The court has granted anticipatory bail to Jairam Mahato and his associates Sushil Mandal, Mahendra Saw and Raj Kumar Mandal in a case related to alleged misconduct with police personnel and obstruction of government work.
However, the court has imposed six important conditions while granting anticipatory bail. The court has made it clear that the relief could be withdrawn if the conditions are violated.
According to the court's order, Jairam Mahato and the other accused must not harass or threaten the informant, investigating officer or any member of their families in any manner. Two sureties will have to be furnished for the bail, one of whom must be the current advocate representing the petitioners and the other a close relative.
Until the framing of charges, all the petitioners will have to appear personally before the lower court on every date of hearing. The court has warned that any negligence or absence could result in cancellation of the bail bond.
The accused will also have to submit their identity proof and active mobile phone numbers before the court. They cannot change the submitted mobile numbers without prior permission from the court. They have also been directed to fully cooperate with the proceedings before the lower court.
The court has further directed each accused to furnish two bail bonds of Rs 20,000 each.
Case Related to August 22 Incident
The case relates to an incident reported in the Barwadda police station area on August 22, 2026. According to the police, an FIR was registered following allegations that a police personnel was threatened and that Jairam Mahato, along with around 40–50 supporters, later reached the police station late at night and created a disturbance.
The case subsequently attracted considerable attention. With the latest court order, Jairam Mahato and his associates have received relief from immediate arrest. However, they will have to comply with all the conditions imposed by the court during the further proceedings.
