Ranchi: BJP State General Secretary Amar Kumar Bauri strongly criticized the Congress over the delimitation issue, accusing the party of spreading confusion and pursuing double standards. He said the current controversy is rooted in the delimitation decisions taken by the then UPA government in 2008.
Bauri demanded that Congress and Rahul Gandhi publicly apologize for the 2008 proposal that would have reduced the number of tribal seats. He said the BJP had supported the 84th Constitutional Amendment at the time, keeping the interests of the tribal community in mind.
He said the Delimitation Commission has not yet been constituted and no proposal has been presented, yet Congress is misleading people. Bauri said the government has indicated that Lok Sabha and Assembly seats will increase, making Congress’s claims about a reduction in seats misleading.
Bauri said the BJP has repeatedly demonstrated its commitment to the tribal community through the creation of Jharkhand, recognition of tribal icons such as Bhagwan Birsa Munda, and the election of Droupadi Murmu as President of India.
State spokespersons Ashok Baraik and Prakash Singh, along with media co-in-charge Neeraj Singh, were also present at the press conference.
