SAIL Welcomes MMDR Amendment Act 2026
New Delhi, August 20: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has welcomed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2026, notified on August 17. The company described the amendment as an important reform aimed at improving financial stability and providing long-term policy certainty in the mining sector.
SAIL said the amendment will bring greater clarity to mineral taxation and fees and encourage investment and mine development. It is also expected to strengthen the company’s long-term raw material security.
The company said better development of mines could increase the availability of surplus iron ore in the domestic market. This would strengthen the steel industry’s supply chain, reduce import dependence and contribute to India’s mineral security.
